NEW VIDEO!

Theory vs. Hypothesis vs. Law… Explained!

People often attack ideas like evolution by natural selection or man-made climate change by saying “Oh, but that’s just a THEORY!”

Yes, they are both theories! Stop saying it like it’s a bad thing!

The problem is that scientists use words like fact, theory, hypothesis, and law differently than they are used in everyday language. Let’s get these words straight once and for all!

Science is the single best tool we have with which to understand the universe, and if we’re going to learn how to use it, we need to speak the same language.

If everyone understood this, I think the world would be a better place, don’t you? Share this vid

Poll shows Donald Trump would beat Democrats in presidential election

languagecrazy:

bluushes:

THIS IS NOT A JOKE.

if the election were held TODAY, trump would beat hillary 45-40%, bernie 44-40%, and biden 44-42%.
this is highly alarming at least to me.

SPREAD THIS.

This is literally because people don’t vote…like honestly…during my last state  election, I went and voted, and then all my friends were like “yeah we don’t want that stupid guy as our state governor. Then the idiot won, I asked my friends, who they voted for, they say “oh I didn’t vote, I was lazy that day”.

Make your friends vote! Drag them out of their house, and make them vote!

There are hardly any excuses for not voting!

And if you’re overseas like I am, don’t let that be an excuse either! You can do an absentee ballot!

WE NEED TO ACTUALLY VOTE PEOPLE!

Vera Mulyani

Recognized as “Santa Monica Renaissance Woman", Mulyani’s innovative visions as a conceptual architect brought her to also become a critically acclaimed filmmaker, photographer, author of fantasy children books and an architectural research thesis. Vera Mulyani has a multidisciplinary array of expertise in art, architecture, urban design, and filmmaking/storytelling, complimented by specialization in conceptual strategy in business development, technology, and innovation.

Ms. Mulyani is working on a collaborative competition platform in regards to designing cities for Mars, our next step to inhabit and settle the Red Planet– focused on providing the master planning. Mulyani has traveled to various cities as a photographer and architect, working closely with world renowned architects, Jean Nouvel and Rudy Ricciotti, contributing studies of urban analytics and experimental solutions for dynamic change to cities such as, Nantes-France, Ruhr-Germany, Shanghai-China, Jakarta-Indonesia, Cairo-Egypte, Hiroshima-Japan, Rio-Brazil, New York-US. Mulyani’s thesis, F* da Rules (Master the Rules),  suggests an innovative adaptation to the contradictive layers of New York City’s urban rules, which contributed  the collapse of the real-estate economy during the 2007 Construction Boom. Mulyani developed a
distinct concept of Recycling Cities , which consisted of transforming damaged areas caused by industrial and cosmopolitan needs into self-sustaining Green Zones, to better integrate a natural environment into human living space. Mulyani’s concept of urbanism advocates a self-sustaining lifestyle, which contributes to nature.

image

Vera has most recently been involved with Silicon Beach (Space related) start-ups, assisting with development, through the application of her unique conceptual scoping strategy and access to various different fields of knowledge. Mulyani recently published her children books and one of the stories, Mr. Blue, inspired her to contribute her creative skills to space exploration.

Vera’s contribution for the next generation’s great adventure to live on Mars, debuted in creating Mars City Design, a collaborative competition platform, uniting innovative thinkers to design the blueprint for future self-sustaining, autonomous cities on Mars. Mulyani challenges candidates to become “responsible guardians of the planets", providing the designs that are not just beneficial to humans but also to nature, “Turning the Red Planet back into Green”. Mulyani’s sincere hope is that the future winning designs can provide positive influences to the cities on Earth today.

Mike Mongo

My name is Mike Mongo and I am an astronaut teacher!”

Why I say this whenever I meet a new young person, or address a group of students, or present before a room full of scientists and researchers, the opportunity to inspire is met and owned. Being an astronaut teacher means that I have the opportunity to wake up minds to the possibilities life holds—including following your dreams to live work and play in space. We need more teachers who take it upon ourselves to point out a future that includes just about anything you can dream or imagine and go for: Dream it, see it, be it.

image

As I see it, the most important thing is how the future is explained to kids. When I was a kid no one explained to me clearly that I would be looking back at myself over the course of my life, thinking, “Good decision! Bad decision!” What we do now with our present is a gift to our selves in the future.

Space has become achievable. Space is a career path. Here at the head of the 21st century, kids and students have the opportunity to become of humankind’s space future. By 2025 when today’s middle school students are out of college, space industry will be hiring like dot-com’s in the 90’s. The best and the brightest can go anywhere and as far as they want to. Our job is to point that out to them.

Many of us have grown up in a world that has yet to get space exploration right. But the good news? We are getting there.

Richard Garriott

The son of a NASA astronaut and a professional artist, Garriott’s lifetime has been filled with adventure and success in nearly every corner of the Earth and beyond.

In October of 2008, Richard realized a lifelong dream to travel to space when he launched aboard the Russian Soyuz TMA-13 spacecraft to the International Space Station and became the sixth private citizen to fly in Earth’s orbit. In doing so, Richard became the first second-generation American in space, following the same path of his father Owen Garriott, who completed two space missions in his NASA career. In early 2009, Richard, born in the United Kingdom, was awarded a Sir Arthur C. Clarke award for individual achievement. The prizes are set up to recognize UK achievements towards advancement in space exploration.

image

Having caught the space bug as a child from his father, Richard has held a passion towards the space industry and has invested in various related ventures such as the Zero-G Corporation, X-Prize and Spacelab. Richard is currently chairman of Space Adventures, Ltd., the world’s premier private space exploration company. He has even participated in many space simulated training activities such as Zero-G parabolas, centrifuge simulations of Soyuz launches and landings, and Mig 25 flights to the edge of space.

Early in his career, Richard combined his leanings toward science and space with a creative intellect inherited from his mother, Helen Garriott, a professional artist. He began designing computer games while still in high school and turned his interest into a professional career that earned him legendary status in the video game industry. His Ultima series of role-playing games remains one of the most successful and longest running franchises in entertainment software history.

image

In 1983, Richard and his brother, Robert, established Origin Systems, Inc. The company, based in Austin, Texas, was recognized as one of the innovation leaders in the ever-changing world of entertainment software. In 1992, Origin was acquired by Electronic Arts (EA), a global leader in the entertainment software industry. In 1997, Richard and his team created a new genre with the technologically groundbreaking title, Ultima Online. Ultima Online’s continued success is measured by the hundreds of thousands of people who enjoy playing the game from all over the world, and by the explosion of online games that has followed since its release.Richard retired from Origin in April of 2000 and formed Destination Games with his brother Robert. In 2001, Destination Games became part of NCsoft, where Richard continued to develop innovative new products.Over his career as a computer game designer Richard has been honored with numerous awards including Entrepreneur of the Year from Inc. magazine and Computer Gaming World’s 15 Most Influential Industry Players. In 2006 Richard was awarded with two industry honors for his work in the games business: selection into The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame and the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Game Developers Choice Awards.

In the Austin community, Richard participates in various philanthropies with the Earth and performance arts in mind. He regularly hosts the Austin Shakespeare Festival on his estate with his creation of a Shakespeare’s Globe replica. Richard hosts a yearly concert and fund raiser on the behalf of the Wild Basin Preserve, has supported the Bat Conservation International group along with the Nature Conservancy.

image

Besides being a video game mogul, Richard has also maintained a thirst for adventure and exploration. Not only is he active in the adventure sports of scuba diving, hang gliding, sky diving, caving, and rappelling in addition to other water and winter sports, but Richard also enjoys taking his love of adventure to the next level. He has participated in two expeditions in search of meteorites on the continent of Antarctica during which he was able to witness spectacular views of the continent he still describes as the most beautiful place on earth. His other travels have taken him to the bottom of the Atlantic to see the Titanic, Rwanda to observe mountain gorillas and a canoe trip down the Amazon River.

About Cities in Space

In your classroom right now sit the future settlers and inhabitants of new worlds. The members and associates of the New Worlds Institute are dedicated to opening the space frontier in our lifetime to everyone. Beyond the boundaries of race, gender, ideological and socio-economic difference, New Worlds Institute believes in opening this new path to any and all who would like to go. In order to be prepared for the world of Free Space and colonization, the human race must consider what to do once the traveling is over and we have arrived. Space colonization on other planets, the Moon and into Free Space will require an immense amount of skills and resource but eventually, humans will be born in these colonies and the human race can thrive and multiply in a new world alive with new culture, science and ideologies in the making of great civilization.

The Cities in Space Competition coincides with the New Worlds Conference each fall where student presentations are held.  NWI is a global institute which is holding the New World Conference in Austin, TX this fall 2015.  When they are not presenting, competing students will have the opportunity to listen to speakers during the conference as well as meet scientists, engineers, NASA experts, New Space leaders and astronauts. Students will attend a luncheon and set speakers in the main New Worlds Conference room with leading scientists and space enthusiasts and conclude there as well for awards and recognition. In support of STEAM ( Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) Education and Project Based Learning, the Cities in Space Competition is about creating a structure that can enable the human race to survive and thrive into a new civilization in space. The competition will take place onsite, during the New Worlds Conference at the Palmer Events Center in downtown Austin on October 16, 2015. Registration cost is $25 per school team.
